Pipe Stress Analysis

Pipe stress analysis is a critical part of any piping system design and must be planned from the early stages of the project design. Pipe routing is often dictated by the geometry of the space it will occupy (i.e., available space within a plant or tunnel, proximity to other piping and equipment, etc.). As a result, the analysis conducted is often an iterative process as the various project requirements and limitations are balanced to achieve a cost-effective solution.

PRVN utilizes Bentley AutoPIPE Pipe Stress Analysis on our projects. Both software packages are utilized to model the thermal growth, pipe stress (sustained and expansion), movements, deflections, support loads, equipment nozzle loads, and anchor forces and moments within a given piping systems. We have found both these software packages to produce reliable and accurate results for high-temperature applications and offer flexibility in making changes as the piping design evolves.

PRVN is also able to provide 3D scans of relevant project areas with our FARO 3D Laser Scanners and accompanying programs, Edgewise and Scene. The 3D scan is used to capture complex objects and building details. The resulting point cloud(s) is then used to develop a BIM model within Bentley OpenPLANT for laying out new equipment and systems on a project allowing geometry to be directly imported into AutoPIPE.
